Deana Pollard Sacks was born Deana Ann Pollard on March 5, 1964 in Tacoma General Hospital in Tacoma, Washington. Professor Sacks attended Truman Elementary School and Truman Junior High School from kindergarten to seventh grade, then moved to beautiful Gig Harbor, Washington, where she graduated from Goodman Middle School. She attended Peninsula High School as a freshman, then Gig Harbor High School when it opened in 1979. Professor Sacks was a member of the second graduating class of Gig Harbor High School, the class of 1982, and she lettered in cheerleading.
Professor Sacks attended the University of Washington in 1982 and also attended Washington State University in 1983. She graduated with a B.A. in English in 1986 from the University of Washington. In 1986, she began law school at the University of Southern California, and graduated Order of the Coif in 1989, with a Juris Doctor degree. She practiced law in Beverly Hills and Los Angeles for several years, and Seattle for a few years, then decided to become a law professor and returned to law school to obtain an LL.M. degree in 1999 from the University of California at Berkeley.
While a student at Berkeley, she obtained a position with Texas Southern University as a law professor, and moved to Houston, Texas in 2000. She moved up the ranks at Texas Southern University and is currently the Roberson King Professor of Law, a scholarly, tenured title. Professor Sacks’s parents are Gloria Pollard and Dean Pollard, who currently reside in Palm Springs, California, and she has an older sister, Lori Pollard Johnson, who is also a writer and has published books for children.
Professor Sacks is married to David James Sacks, owner of the Sacks Law Firm in Houston, Texas. The Sackses have four boys, David Sacks, Jr., Ryan Sacks, Ryan Pollard, and Adam Sacks.
